Rose Hill Foods, a trusted name in the food industry since 1983, recognized the need to expand its established portfolio of dehydrated soup bases, sauces, and seasonings with a premium range of culinary products that would elevate and broaden its flavour offering. That vision led to the creation of The Original 86 Food Company.
The name Original 86 is inspired by Delmonico’s Restaurant, widely regarded as the first luxury restaurant in New York and a defining force in North American haute cuisine for nearly a century. According to popular culinary lore, the house steak specialty was item number 86 on the menu, and when it sold out due to its popularity, the staff would say it was “86’d” — an expression that became part of kitchen culture.
Original 86 draws its inspiration from the hardworking chefs of the classic kitchen brigade and from the great culinary professionals whose commitment to detail and quality ingredients continues to shape the industry today.
